The role involves working for the projects team to deliver a programme to update/modernise Aids to Navigation and supporting infrastructure. This is made up of four elements which are electrical design work, design, commissioning and project management. Electrical Engineer/Design/commissioningBardsey Lighthouse Modernisation - The project was to implement renewables to replace the 24Hr running diesel generation and to replace a rotating optic with L.E.D technology . I took over the responsibility for the electrical design for this project just prior to the installation, I factory accepted the electrical cubicles , chaired the design review, carried out the pre-commissioning, provided advice and support to the installation team and commissioned the station. The project was on time and to budget.Electrical Engineer/Design/commissioningMonkstone Lighthouse Modernisation - Monkstone Lighthouse is a 2 tier GRP tower on top of a masonry structure in the middle of the Bristol Channel. The project was a full modernisation of the aids to navigation, control and communication and telemetry system. I carried out the electrical design. This included a new GSM telemetry cubicle replacing the obsolete radio link with Flatholm Lighthouse. The project was completed successfully in 2016.Project ManagementEuropa Point Lighthouse Modernisation - Europa point Lighthouse is at the southern tip of Gibraltar. As Project Manager I wrote the project brief and carried out the planning and co-ordination for the project. The challenges of this project included local legislation, work permits, shipping and customs, waste, CDM and planning regulations. The project installation is complete and the project is currently on time and to budget.Electrical Engineer/Design/commissioningLight Vessel 07 - After a docking and repair period LV07 was fully updated to become an emergency deployment vessel. I carried out the electrical design and commissioning.

Lone watches as the first point of contact at Trinity House. I responded to Aid to Navigation Casualties (Lighthouses, buoys and light vessels) and wrecks to assign the correct resources and make other agencies aware of situations.An example of this would be if a wreck were to occur in the Dover Strait the relevant agencies would contact the Operations Officer at Trinity House. I would then carry out the process to assign a Trinity House Tender to deploy Emergency Wreck Marking Buoys and communicate with the other agencies involved.

Plan work packages to be implemented by my team and contractors, oversee and accept the work on completion.Carry out shifts as the Marine Engineering Officer of the Watch supervising the Marine engineering watch at sea maintaining power to the command and a stable weapons and helicopter platform. Ensure correct procedures are carried out in a ships emergency to safeguard equipment and personnel.Manage the planned maintenance system for the generation section delegating work to one supervisor and a team of five engineering technicians.Deal with any unplanned work and emergent defects to reduce down time. Report to internal and external authorities.Write appraisal reports for my team and manage their training and welfare.24 Hour call out for any section related issues regardless of watch-keeping commitments.Key achievements* Planned a work package for the generation section prior to an extensive upkeep period of a Type 23 Frigate in Rosyth Dockyard encompassing the work requisitions for two V12 diesel changes, Cooler cleans, Lagging and preservation work and accepted work on completion.* Substituted for the power group head (line manager) during the upkeep period for a four month period overseeing and providing technical assistance and logistics for the main distribution system, four V12 diesel generators, two sea boats, one V8 emergency generator and the groups support equipment and tools.;

• Carry out duties as the Marine Engineering officer of the watch 2 operating a combination of diesel gas and electric propulsion system on a type 23 Frigate reacting to breakdowns and instructions from command.• Fire fighting attack party leader at sea and in charge of the forward control point in harbour• Carried out and supervised maintenance on High and low pressure air systems, Reverse osmosis desalination plants and air conditioning/refrigeration as well as supervising low level maintenance including portable and private electrical testing.• Fault finding on three and single phase 440V, 115V AC and 24/32V DC circuits.• Carry out duties as a low voltage (440V/600V) switchboard operator. Key achievements• Electrical and mechanical fault finding on reverse osmosis desalination plants to maintain the ships supplies of fresh water in conditions not suited to the plant i.e. shallow warm water during operations in the Northern Arabian Gulf.
