Compassionate and relational educational leader with a knack for initiating change and fostering innovation in communities through education. My passion lies in mentoring and advocating for learners, rooted in the belief that education should be holistic, relationship-based, inclusive, and learner-centric in order to foster a generation that approaches our complex realities with open minds and hearts, capable of shaping a more sustainable, just, and healthy world for all. I am the co-founder of the Ponderosa Education Community (PEC) in Kelowna, BC, a trailblazing learning community model that prioritizes these principles. Within the PEC, I am deeply involved as the lead educator for the Better World Club. This youth-led community-action club empowers middler schoolers to take action today, for a better tomorrow. Understanding that every learner carries a unique set of strengths, interests, and learning styles, our model is shifting away from one-size-fits-all approaches. We champion every learner’s unique contributions, ignite creativity, nurture critical thinking, and foster community among learners - all tailored to the rhythms of each student.More than an alternative learning environment, the Ponderosa Education Community extends learning beyond the walls of traditional classrooms, engaging the wider world as a potent sphere for holistic learning. This initiative is a collaborative venture - we invite learners, educators, parents, and community members to voice their perspectives, collaborate, and co-create an education experience that genuinely serves our learners and our community.I am an advocate for inclusive and participatory processes that empower people — especially our youth — to imagine and take action to create our collective future - our better world. Youth leadership, community engagement, and collective action are woven into the fabric of our Learning Commons and are enacted through our Better World Club.As a visionary educational leader with a record of meaningful mentorship and a heart for relational learning, I know education should empower learners to question, to consider the consequences of their actions, and to envision possibilities beyond the status quo. It's about embracing values that transcend political lines – values of compassion, environmental stewardship, and social responsibility. These values, like the roots of a tree, anchor all of us as individuals within a broader, thriving, society.
