I lead a team of transducer design engineers. Our mission is to develop transducers for the automotive market which are low cost, reliable, and compatible with high volume manufacturing.

Worked as part of of a multidisciplinary team to develop an airborne ultrasonic transducer for mid-air haptic applications. Key skills and contributions include; FE simulations and design (Comsol), development of automated test methods for ultrasonic transducers, appropriate material selection for meeting a demanding specification, testing and evaluation of ultrasonic phased arrays to verify performance.

Working as a research engineer to characterise acoustic fields and the mid-air haptics vibrations generated in human hands by focussed ultrasound. Demonstrated methods for optimising haptic algorithms for improved strength of perception.

My PhD thesis was entitled 'The application of piezoelectric sensors to composite materials'. The work was sponsored by Permali Gloucester. The research demonstrated methods for embedding piezoelectric transducers inside composite materials. The embedded transducers were used transmit and receive ultrasonic waves. Analysis of the gathered ultrasonic data enabled the sensors to monitor the progress of cure during manufacture, and detect damage in manufactured parts.
