I worked to identify, test and procure tools (Health language) to support better understanding of SCT’s and responsible for costing and negotiating contracts to support these tools through the procurement of Managed Technical Services (MTS) from ATOS Alliance and training days from Health Language. I created training materials and led stakeholder workshops to communicate SCT's and the supporting products. I also attended international conferences to better understand the success and challenges faced by other countries trying to introduce SCT's, making recommendation to NHS Scotland on how to progress implementation of it. I set-up up the appropriate governance groups to consider my recommendations and was responsible for cascading knowledge and expert advice to the NHS Scotland Terminology Service, NHS Territorial Boards and the S.G.H.D. -
Nhs Scotland - National Ahp Census Project ManagerNhs National Services Scotland Mar 2005 - Jan 2006Gyle Square, 1 South Gyle Crescent, Edinburgh, Eh12 8XdI project managing all aspects of the first ever National Allied Health Professional (AHP) census, to capture and support collection and analysis of activity & workload information for AHP's. A census of this kind had never been undertaken before in NHS Scotland at that time. The work was at the cutting edge in terms of use of I.T for the organisation at the time. I had to liaise with all of the sub-teams involved, the 14 Health Boards, AHP Clinical leads, NHS Board I.T leads and depts, 9 AHP professional groups, NCDDP development teams, Scottish Executive and their respective professional bodies. Throughout this multi staged project, I was able to provide clear and decisive leadership for the project, explaining complex requirements in a straightforward and logical manner which ultimately resulted in 5995 AHP’s participating (80%) and 39,877 cases being captured on the 14th Sept 2005. -
Senior Project Development Manager -PtiNhs National Services Scotland Jan 2004 - Feb 2005Gyle Square, 1 South Gyle Crescent, Edinburgh, Eh12 9EbI managed the Practice Team Information (PTI) project & team which collects information from a sample of Scottish general practices about face-to-face consultations (in a surgery or the patient's home) between patients and a member of the practice team. The practice team is currently defined for PTI purposes as all GPs including locums and registrars (GPs in training), and practice-employed clinical staff (referred to as practice nurses but also including, for example, phlebotomists and health care assistants), and for the three years between 2003/04 and 2005/06 inclusive, also community nurses (district nurses and health visitors). My kety responsibilities were;1. Continually develop and enhance the project using proven project management skills2. Control an annual budget of approx £1 million3.Train GP's, Practice Nurses,Health Visitors & Midwifes, to collect morbidity & activity data using READ codes and enter into Primary care I.T systems4.Recruit additional practices to maintain the national samples5.Provide support services and guidance for all participants6.Develop and implement innovate I.T solutions in joint ventures with commercial primary care suppliers to improve the speed, accuracy and retrieval of information7.Develop and implement Quality Assurance processes to ensure high confidence levels in the data.8. Manage, lead and motivate a team of project staff to realise their own personal goals and business objectives -
