I am a PhD student in Clinical-Community Psychology with a Rural and Indigenous Focus at the University of Alaska Anchorage. I have had diverse clinical training experiences in community mental health, school mental health, crisis intervention and management, and neuropsychology. I am currently doing a clinical practicum at Psychological Services Group, a private practice that provides neuropsychological evaluations to clients across the state of Alaska. I aim to continue pursuing a career in neuropsychology with a special interest in pediatric populations with neurodevelopmental disorders. My primary research interests involve the etiology, treatment, and prevention of substance use and suicide, particularly examining mechanisms of action. For my dissertation, I plan to develop a brief online intervention to target impulsivity in college students and examine whether this mediates outcomes for alcohol use and suicidality. I am also involved in other research projects including understanding why individuals do or do not believe in a biological vulnerability for alcohol use disorders in Alaska Native populations and reasons for hesitancy toward the COVID-19 vaccination for Alaska Native peoples.Given that my program is a combined clinical-community psychology program, I am also interested in community organization, program development, prevention and health promotion, and policy advocacy. I am currently completing a community practicum at the Aleutian and Pribilof Islands Association, Inc. in their Food Sovereignty Program. This practicum involves assisting with grant management, community planning and organization, and dissemination of information for various food-related projects in the Aleutian and Pribilof Islands. In my future career, I hope to have opportunities for developing suicide and substance use prevention programs for youth and vulnerable populations.Lastly, I also have other related experiences through graduate assistantship opportunities. I have several semesters of experience as a teaching assistant as well as teaching as the Instructor of Record. In Fall 2023 and Spring 2024, I taught an undergraduate psychopathology course which I will also be teaching in Fall 2024. Also, I have served in administrative roles within university psychology clinics including one position as the clinic coordinator of the UAA Psychological Services Center. These roles involved client screening and therapist matching, facilitating training for new practicum students, quality assurance for medical records, and overseeing clinic income/managing funds.
