I love founders. I invest in them to push Taiwan & Asia forward, at both Taiwan Mobile and AppWorks, one of the region's leading startup accelerator + VC. AppWorks Accelerator admits 40 startups per semi-annual batch and has 607 active startups & 1,846 founders in its alumni network, all together generating US$16 billion in annual revenues, providing 24,570 jobs and valued at $30.3 billion. As a VC with $350 million under management, AppWorks has so far produced 7 IPOs and 9 IEOs, 1 hectocorn, 2 decacorns, 5 unicorns and 13 centaurs. It funds 20 deals a year, owns 120 names in its portfolio, including Uber, Kraken, Dapper Labs/FLOW, Lalamove, Animoca Brands, 91APP, Figment, Carousell, Shopback, KKday Beam Mobility, and 17LIVE. In 2019, AppWorks formed a strategic alliance with Taiwan Mobile, the country's leading telco group, resulting in me taking over as the CEO. At Taiwan Mobile, I work with a group of amazing individuals to blaze the trails on integrating a telecom platform with the applications that are sitting on top of it to solve people's problems, the Telco+Tech strategy. Already, we generate 60% of our revenues from tech (non-telco) businesses, which makes us an anomaly amongst telecom companies in the world.Before AppWorks, I was a tech startup founder for 10 years. In 1999, I co-founded Hotcool.com, a pioneer in Taiwan's burgeoning e-commerce industry. After funding dried up post dotcom crash, Hotcool evolved into Intumit, now a publicly listed AI-as-a-service company. In New York 2006, I co-founded an online travel platform startup, Sosauce.com, which later became Muse Games. In 2009, I moved back to Taipei to start a VC by founders for founders -- AppWorks.I am a geek growing up -- began coding and tinkering PCs at 10. In 2009, I started my blog "MR JAMIE" and have since posted 1,300 essays, providing inspirations to millions globally. I have served as a Member of the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC), among other roles, to contribute back.
