About Jamie Peyton
I was born in New York and moved back and forth between the city and Charlottesville, Virginia multiple times, and Charlottesville is where my home is now, but I really grew up in both places and I think those contradicting experiences give me unique perspective. I've worked in wait staff, lifeguarding, construction, landscaping and garden work, and educational / childcare roles, as well as my current job in food service. I definitely want to refine my craftsman skills, particularly woodworking, which I have less experience in than stonework and landscaping, but enjoy more. I also am eager to apply my sustainable agriculture education and my gardening experience toward actual farms.I am also extremely passionate about the topics I study in school, such as sustainable community design, development, and economics, sustainable agriculture, landscape design, urban planning, and green building / architecture. I hope to pursue these topics in a future career.I am restless, curious, open-minded, and an explorer by nature. I love getting out of my comfort zone and trying new things, going to new places, experiencing different cultures, and I have been lucky enough to have already traveled to many different countries around the world at a young age. I like to say my goal before I die is to go everywhere, try everything, and make at least some small positive impact everywhere I go. In Spring 2024 I completed a semester abroad in Perugia, Italy, where I lived for 5 months and learned a lot about the things I care about, explored and met dozens of wonderful people, made considerable progress toward learning a new language, volunteered at an ethical food purchasing group, and completed a 7-week internship at a local organic winery (Terre Margaritelli) helping with marketing, translating on tours, preparing for and pouring wine at events, and packaging of the products we sold. Soon after I returned from Italy in late June, I started working at Leunig's Bistro, an upscale French restaurant in downtown Burlington. I started as a table busser, and quickly worked my way to food runner, and I hope to be promoted to server/bartender soon, but my availability has seriously decreased since the start of the Fall semester.I am currently taking 6 classes for 19 credits while working at the restaurant and playing club basketball, so my schedule is packed right now, but I'm confident I can succeed at anything I set my mind to. I don't yet know what my ambitions add up to, but I'm excited to see where my journey takes me... considering many options.

Landscaper / Handyman
When I am in Vermont I work part time (mostly weekends) for an elderly couple of retired organic farmers on their property - I help Susan edge and maintain gardens, transplant plants and plant vegetables, mow the grass in the warmer months, prune and cut down trees, stack firewood in the winter, other various landscaping projects, I helped with a couple small porch repair projects. Susan has become a good friend over the past couple years.
Handyman
Adam hired me last Spring as a part time handyman, and I worked on several different types of projects for him. The biggest of these projects was pouring concrete and installing 6x6 posts to install a shade sail over his pool deck area. I also painted outdoor steps and porches at a couple properties he owns, a few repairs at his house, weekly pool and hot tub maintenance, garden maintenance and tree plantings. The tasks with this job varied greatly - we kept a running list of things for me… Show more Adam hired me last Spring as a part time handyman, and I worked on several different types of projects for him. I also applied my landscape design studies to create a bird's eye layout of the hardscape/softscape of one of his properties using MS powerpoint in order to get city approval for a staircase renovation. While there, I witnessed and learned a lot about the Italian wine industry, as well as organic viticulture and sustainable forestry (the Margaritelli family is mainly a lumber / wood flooring company and uses regenerative harvesting practices in a white oak forest in France, where it harvests and produces its own white oak barrels for its wine business). Working with Federico and the rest of Terre Margaritelli's wonderful staff was an incredibly rewarding 7 week experience. Show less
