As an intern at Transitions, I was responsible for conducting Intake Assessments with new residential clients, managing office work, and attending meetings as a part of a multi-disciplinary team. The most rewarding part of this work was working with individuals to evoke their potential and encourage them on their journey to finding stability. Building relationships is one of my passions and walking through the Day Center and connecting with clients by name and asking them how things were going was one of my greatest joys while working in this organization.

It was during this internship that I discovered my passion for working with at-risk teens. As an intern, I had a caseload of Foster Care cases that I visited monthly and documented. I also worked with these families to facilitate their biological parental visits. Additionally, I worked alongside the caseworkers to investigate reports, follow up with protective services cases, and participate in court staffings. During this internship, I gained case management experience, documentation skills, and began to understand the need for trauma-informed care.

Little Rock, Arkansas Area

As a volunteer with Restore Hope Arkansas, I worked with a team of students in my social work class to research prison recidivism in White County, Arkansas. During this time, my perspective on prison recidivism was broadened and I gained a deep respect for individuals that have been released from prison and are trying to transition back into their communities. In addition to the research piece of this volunteer work, a group of students and I also organized and put on a Foster Care Dad's day; an event that focused on teaching foster families how to navigate the gray area of birthdays when fostering.

Spartanburg, South Carolina

As an intern at Central Church of Christ, I worked alongside the Youth Minister to plan and execute youth group events, plan and develop lessons, and organize youth group trips. Most of my time in this role was spent cultivating relationships with middle and high schoolers and mentoring them through difficult life transitions.
