Company was Merastar Insurance when I started and was purchased by Unitrin Direct.Web Application Technology Expert. Evaluate business needs, advise leadership on ways to leverage the web to improve business, create web-based applications and databases and make necessary changes/enhancements to corporate web site and applications to improve efficiency.Responsible for choosing technologies and path for moving various systems from legacy AS/400 (iSeries) to web-based systems. Worked with third-party vendor to implement new J2EE claims system. Determined and implemented solution for integrating new claims system with legacy system. Analyzed corporate web site and determined need to move to another platform for future growth and maintainability. Redesigned corporate web site to be more usable and comply with current web standards. Researched tools and performed feasibility studies. Designed and implemented web-based homeowners insurance rate quote utilizing web services to integrate with legacy rating engine. Work closely with marketing manager and other department managers and senior staff to ensure the corporate web site is meeting their needs and plan for future development. Created “Learning Thursdays” as a method of sharing information about projects and technologies with other developers and staff.

Developed web site for CAREERS program (a program to attract middle and high school students to allied health professions). Assist students with programming lab assignments.Researched various technologies and software and recommend solutions, including 3D technologies, Content Management Systems, and various utility programs. Researched web standards, usability, and accessibility. Also, wrote various programs as needed.

Company was Provident when I started, then UnumProvident, and ultimately, Unum.Worked up from entry-level developer position to Senior Systems Analyst leading a small team.Designed and developed client-server systems and n-tier, web-based solutions to business problems.Examples: 1.) Lead designer and developer for company’s first web-based application. System provided brokers with real-time insurance application status information over the Internet. System utilized Active Server Pages to access data in mainframe legacy system (DB2) and present it on the web. Managed a team of interns for this project.2.) Save company over $2,000,000 by designing and developing system to provide forms over the Internet to brokers and field offices. Added "shopping cart" ordering system to the forms site allowing brokers to order required forms. Project utilized ASP, COM objects, and SQL Server to access data in legacy systems, access form repository, and store order information. Managed a team of interns for this project.3.) Lead designer for enterprise-wide forms management system utilizing object-oriented analysis and design techniques and Unified Modeling Language (UML).
