I coordinated the Wikipedia Education Program in the United States and Canada. In this role, I worked with professors who use Wikipedia as a teaching tool in the classroom by assigning students to edit as a part of coursework. I recruited, trained, coordinated, and mentored professors, volunteers, and students who participated in the program, and I helped build systems to scale the program from working with 20 university courses each semeseter to the 400+ today.

In my free time while I sheltered in place, I was making and selling face masks. $5 from each purchase went directly to organizations fighting for Black lives and reproductive autonomy. In the program, professors discard the traditional research paper assignment and assign their students to turn that amazing research into Wikipedia articles for all to access. I work with professors and volunteers to design those assignments into ones that will be mutually beneficial to the student and to Wikipedia. In other words, the best assignments are the ones that allow the students to achieve key learning objectives while also producing amazing, neutral, and well-written content for Wikipedia. On my side of the program, I strive every day to be a positive leader and mentor to our volunteers, to conceptualize and implement smart strategies that will achieve our goals and focus on our priorities, and to connect people with others who will support their needs. I'm incredibly proud of the work that our student editors, professors, and volunteers are doing.
