Jan specialises in digital health and social care, and has managed complex and innovative work programmes at the forefront of work in this area. She is currently Head of Health and Care at the British Computer Society. Previously, as business manager of the Faculty of Clinical Informatics she managed the organisation from its early days to a vibrant UK-wide multi-disciplinary professional membership community of over a thousand doctors, nurses, AHPs, pharmacists, health care scientists, dentists and social care workers. This was done through growing membership services, development and implementation of professional standards and developing the profile of the FCI as a leading digital health organisation. Prior to this she managed the Health Informatics Unit at the Royal College of Physicians. The HIU carried out innovative consultancy projects in the NHS, including the development of record standards, commissioned by the Professional Record Standards Body. She was involved for many years in health and social care integration programmes, including leading a health and social care demonstrator programme for an NHS and social care partnership in Cheshire and worked on the Department of Health Common Assessment Framework Programme, where she advised and supported twelve demonstrator partnerships across England implementing integrated pathways supported by integrated IT solutions and citizen portals to provide individuals with access to information advice, services and their assessment records. Her experience spans all social and health care settings (primary care, acute, community and mental health). She has worked at a senior level both for individual organisations and, especially, with multi-agency partnerships. This means that she has both a wide ranging and detailed knowledge of the different business environments and information systems in use in the NHS and social care as well as understanding the challenges of and successful approaches to integrated working. Her skills include: professional membership development and growth, programme management, process review and change management, co-production, IM&T procurements in line with OJEC regulations, business cases and ICT strategies.
