Working with the Research Informatics Division at City of Hope, I was able to develop a framework with the ability to apply machine learning to increase efficiency in Drug Discovery. Through my research internship I have:* Made a framework utilizing novel feature selection techniques to predict drug efficacy.* Familiarized myself with and applied machine learning algorithms like Random Matrix Theory and Linear Regression, running a plethora of experiments to develop an optimized model* Using just the molecular structure of a compound, makes this approach much more applicable than previous methods* Developed a novel feature selection technique that was then applied by City of Hope's Department of Computational and Quantitative Medicine to improve patient health care through the use of ML* Presented early and promising results to researchers at City of Hope, receiving feedback on improvisation of the project* Made a presentation and extended abstract explaining the research project’s methods, results, and future expansion and submitted to the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA)
