I develop and deliver a programme of work in conjunction with the Manhood Peninsula Partnership to ensure the sustainable development of the Manhood Peninsula south of Chichester, West Sussex. The long-term issues of climate change adaptation and sea level rise are particularly important. We aim to develop projects emerging through the network of organisations and individuals engaged with land drainage and integrated coastal zone management. The Manhood Peninsula Partnership (MPP) employs a part time Project Officer, who develosp and delivers a programme of work in conjunction with the MPP partners to ensure the sustainable development of the Manhood Peninsula south of Chichester, West Sussex. The long-term issues of climate change adaptation and sea level rise are particularly important. We aim to develop projects emerging through the network of organisations and individuals engaged with land drainage and integrated coastal zone management. The partnership is comprised of representatives from local/regional government, the parishes, local environmental and heritage organisations, and regional representatives of national bodies including the Environment Agency, RSPB, Natural England and National Trust.

During Chichester's Coastal Change Pathfinder Project I was lead officer on writing and coordinating the integrated coastal zone management plan for the Manhood Peninsula Partnership, 'Towards ICZM on the Manhood Peninsula'. The document was adopted by Chichester District Council as an aspiration plan and material consideration in planning decisions on the peninsula. Other strands of Pathfinder work included:- Managing the Coastal Change Grants Fund. Projects were fed into Towards ICZM as a practical local response to coastal issues.- Developing informative material concerned with Pathfinder issues. This included the Towards ICZM- Developing a workshop about coastal change.

The work was aimed at monitoring the payment and expenditure of S106 planning obligations for the benefit of the community within Chichester District.

Chichester Harbour

As HLF Information Officer I was responsible for implementing and delivering projects within Rhythms of the Tide, Chichester Harbour Conservancy’s Heritage Lottery funded project. I had particular resposibility for co-ordinating and implementing environmental and archaeological projects, and sustainable transport which included management of Solar Heritage, the solar powered catamaran.

The role here helped determine the fate of artefacts retrieved from shipwrecks, and declared to the Receiver of Wreck during the Wreck Amnesty 2001. Other aspects of the role included advising on the legalities of recovered wreck ownership defined by the Merchant Shipping act 1995, and dealing with the stranding of whales, dolphins and sturgeon (collectively known as Fishes Royal) on the shores round England.
