I have a knack for colour, an eye for detail and a talent for connecting with the reader - be it community, client or costumer. This means my writing style and tonal range is wide. I can easily shift from the formal language requirements of corporate publications, submissions and reports, to the more conversational and engaging style of brochures, blogposts, newsletters, social media campaigns and websites. I can also tailor my writing and editing to a broad range of audiences, including government, industry, academics, scientists, youth, festival-goers, Indigenous populations and the general public. I help STEM-based organisations bridge the gap between science-speak and lay understanding, so they can reach governments, industry and the broader public with their work. How do I do this? I use my writing and editing powers to turn their amazing research and ideas into content that engages, informs and inspires a wide variety of readers. This work includes websites, case studies, feature articles, press releases, submissions and educational material. I also ensure their corporate publications are accessible to a broad audience. My writing ranges from hard news and features to reviews and opinion pieces, with a particular focus on health and science, arts and culture, and just the plain ol' quirky. I have been published in the Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, The Australian, Courier Mail, The Good Pub Food Guide, Medical Observer, The Canberra Times, Broadsheet, Irish Independent and Evening Herald. I have also edited online publications such as The Conversation and Crikey.Achievements:• Scooped story on landmark Australian court case against breast cancer gene patents • Uncovered life-saving heart research that had been jeopardised by gene patents at Melbourne’s Murdoch institute. Other articles focused on cancer gene patents; my piece revealed that the patent issue was more far-reaching.• First Australian journalist to identify and interview mother caught in international stem cell scandal• Won spot on Australia-Malaysia Institute's cultural exchange program for journalists• Wrote major profile on Anwar Ibrahim shortly before he returned to Malaysian politics and made international headlines with more sodomy allegations
