With a first degree is Latin, what do you do? Well I started out in industry working for Courtaulds and training as an accountant. I moved to Croxton and Garry, part of a Swiss Company Pluess Stauffer in 1979 and qualified. A year after I had my son in 1984, we moved to High Wycombe and I worked as an independent consultant, writing software for small companies and completed my MBA at Henley. In 1988 I went back to work full time as company accountant for a small bio tech company, part of the Porton International Group. My final move in the financial arena was to become European Controller at Milligen a subsidiary of Millipore After 15 years experience in industry,in 1991 the family moved to the USA, and I became an early telecommuter, working as a researcher for Henley in the UK but living in Atlanta. Three years of research for what was then Coopers and Lybrand, produced my first book and a PhD. The initial focus on IT benefits management, became a focus on Business Transformation. Returning to the UK in 1991 I joined Henley and moved full time into education. It fitted with my passion for learning, and really felt like coming home to where I belonged. I loved running hte MBA programmes,and then got interested in how learning and knowledge management enabled business transformation. The fields of learning and knowledge management are fundamentally linked to the notion of major business change, so this has been my focus for the past 10 years. I work with KM practitioners in the Henley KM Forum to develop practical ways of improving the contribution of knowledge to business activities at a strategic and operational level.
