I am an educational consultant specialising in all aspects of Special Educational Needs (SEN) and in particular behaviour management. I have worked in special and mainstream schools and with all phases of education from 5-18. I have worked in special and mainstream schools and with all phases of education from 5-18. In recent years I have done a lot of work in a range of mainstream secondary and primary schools helping them to re-organise their SEN departments and in recruiting and training SENCos. As a former SIP (School Improvement Partner) I have also supported three special schools as a School Support Partner, two of which were recently judged to be Good with some Outstanding features by Ofsted and one of which was judged Outstanding overall. Before becoming a consultant, I had twenty eight years experience as a teacher, fifteen of which were spent as Deputy, Acting Head and Head in a variety of educational settings. I have considerable skill in developing and implementing strategies for managing challenging behaviour. My practical skills, which are based on extensive personal experience, are underpinned by a sound understanding of the theoretical approaches to dealing with challenging behaviour, including the successful publication of my Doctoral Thesis by the University of Sussex in 2010. In April 2003, I was appointed Head Teacher of a Key Stage Three and Key Stage Four PRU. During the Ofsted Inspection in May 2003, the Inspectors praised the, ‘strong leadership of the newly appointed Head’. Under my leadership, the PRU continued to improve and from 2004 onwards appeared annually in the Good Schools Guide for work with pupils with Special Educational Needs.
