About Dr Jane Duff

Dr Jane Duff is a Registered Clinical and Health Psychologist with the HCPC. She has worked in spinal cord injury (SCI) rehabilitation for over 27 years providing direct therapy, research, teaching/training and consultancy. She became a Consultant Clinical Psychologist in 2008 and Head of the National Spinal Injuries Centre Psychology Team at Stoke Mandeville Hospital in 2017.As a clinician researcher, Jane works to improve psychosocial outcome and self-management, impacting lifelong quality of life and health for people with SCI. She has been Chief Investigator for UK and international research, and is currently the UK CI for an international grant awarded to Shirley Ryan AbilityLab working alongside researchers in USA, Australia, Canada, and the Netherlands. Jane provides clinical supervision for post graduate research and is a visiting lecturer with Doctoral Clinical Psychology Programmes at the University of Oxford and King’s College, London.Clinical Interventions and evidencing best rehabilitation outcome for people with SCI and their families are research priorities. Jane has led the Stoke Mandeville Spinal Needs Assessment Checklist and Goal Planning Programme since 2008, co-ordinating local, national, and international reach.A central value for Jane, is professional leadership and innovation. For the first 7 years of her career, Jane served on national and local committees for the Division of Clinical Psychology of the British Psychological Society. Jane has been a contributor to national SCI leadership since 2012, serving on NHS England Clinical Reference Groups. She led the UK and Ireland Spinal Cord Injury Psychologists Advisory Group (SCIPAG) 2015-2022, producing in this capacity and the CRG, the Psychological and Mental Health Standards Report. The report outlines psychological health screening standards and service developments. Jane is currently leading the associated research partnerships.Internationally, Jane Chairs the European Spinal Psychologists Association (ESPA) and the International Spinal Cord Society (ISCoS) Psychosocial Special Interest Group. She is a member of the ISCoS Psychological Functioning Data Set Group, agreeing international measures. She served as an SCI expert for World Health Organisation 2030 Package of Rehabilitation Interventions, launched in July 2023.Jane is Founder and Director of Reappraise Ltd, a psychological consultancy firm specialising in expert witness assessment, teaching, training and clinical supervision of therapists working with people with SCI and long-term physical health conditions.
