I am drawn to the interdisciplinary nature of robotics and haptics, and the array of applications to improve our lives from medical interventions to human collaboration in daily scenarios. I am beginning a faculty position at the University of Maryland Baltimore County in the Mechanical Engineering Department. My work focuses on human-in-the-loop systems with haptic integration in rehabilitation robotics, prosthetics, and creating an effective feedback for robotic operators.In my dissertation I studied the relationship between mechanical interactions with the skin creating touch information and the way people perceive and interpret that information at the Mechatronics and Haptics Interfaces (MAHI) Lab in the at Rice University. Additional projects integrated haptic feedback devices in prosthetic and teleoperation scenarios for increased dexterity. During my post doc in assistive robotics at the Human-Robot Interaction Lab at UMass Lowell and the NERVE Center, I worked on new sensor integration in upper and lower limb exoskeletons to detect fatigue for more efficient and long-lasting user assistance, as well as in developing a modular soft-gripper platform for middle and high school robotics outreach.
