I am a steward and an advocate of the environment, passionate about connecting and keeping community culture and its vibrancy in place. My interest in this work stems from my love for my people, people of African descent, and of equitable representation and reflection of our realities across space. Place-keeping and space-keeping practices amplify local voices and ensure equity across geographical boundaries. I have a background in environmental science and city and regional planning. My academic research and work have spanned the disciplines and practices of green infrastructure planning, environmental storytelling, community garden mapping and spatial analysis, and place-keeping across green space. Amongst these, my passions lie at the nexus of neighborhood and environmental planning and justice practices. I value cultural knowledge in my work and seek such practices in an effort to uplift and remember land, culture, history, and place stewards. I have been fortunate to engage communities and pursue relevant work throughout Atlanta, D.C., and Virginia.I am looking forward to growing through connections made and ongoing opportunities. I can be directly contacted at janelle@wawa-online.org.
