I am the Software Development Manager for the Chandra X-ray Center Data System since Fall 1998. I manage a team of developers responsible for the software to support the forward and return data from NASA's Chandra Observatory, along with a portable data analysis system (CIAO) for scientific analysis. More recently we've led the development and production of the Chandra source catalog that contains 317K sources observed over the mission so far. The data system is approximately 1.8 million logical lines of code. Staff size has varied from 50 developers at launch in 1999 to the current 21. I am involved in the International Virtual Observatory Alliance (IVOA) organization where I serve as Chair to the Technical Coordination Group (TCG) since May 2021 and previously served as TCG Vice Chair (2018-2021) and Secretary to the Executive committee (2013-2018). The IVOA is made up of a group of scientists and software developers from many of the large telescope operations centers internationally developing standards for access and analysis of astronomical data. The Chandra team contributes to the standards developed by the group, particularly in the area of data models, and implements many of the IVOA archive services for data discovery and interoperability with Chandra data.
