I have designed and am in the beginning stages of manufacturing dog ramps for tractor trailers, passenger vehicles and working on a design for small aircraft. With the growing number of truckers taking dogs as companions in their trucks with them and the size of their dogs increasing, the need is there. As a former driver that took my own dog with me, and unable to find a suitable product on the market that was lightweight or compact enough and that would prevent my own Rottweiler or myself from injury as he got in and out of the truck. I spent the last 7 years working on a design that would be quick and easy to use, lightweight enough not to affect the bottom dollar, compact and secure so it can remain on the truck while in motion.

I owned a small tattoo and piercing shop. I set up, registered, licensed, conducted HR duties, did the accounting, payroll, banking, purchasing, and everything related to setting up and running a business that requires regular health inspections. I was in charge of banking and during my absence had to choose a person that could run my shop in my place.This industry is a transient industry so I was involved in a lot of hiring and firing of employees and sub-contractors. In this industry there is a lot of recordkeeping, as with the transportation industry, that must be maintained and held on to for a certain length of time as well.

I owned and operated a tractor and made sure it was well maintained and repaired in a timely fashion. I believed and still believe that safety is number one in this industry. I hauled dry van five axle across border and have held a FAST card from its inception up until last year when I let it lapse. I looked after making most of my own appointments and dealt with the customers personally on the phone. I made sure that I was either on time or very early for my appointments. I believe that the customer is what is important, because without them we have nothing.

I hauled flat bed, step deck, and over dimensional loads in Canada and into the USA. I looked after my own loading and unloading, ensured that my loads were safe and secure, planned my routing in the most direct way possible for cost efficiency.

I started as a company driver and within a one month I purchased an older truck to start with. I worked as a team during part of this time. We hauled flat bed, step deck and over dimensional loads.

I worked as a dry bulk and anhydrous dispatcher for Westcan on a computerized system. I enjoyed working with the drivers, other dispatchers and customers. I often helped the fuel dispatchers with billing and reconciliation of paperwork. I enjoyed working long hours and still do.

I did yard checks for four yards of trailers including one of Bison's trailer yards. I dispatched trailers into and out of doors via radio dispatch and manual recordkeeping. Trailers were requested as per shipping, receiving or quality control. I was part of loss prevention as well, assisting with counts of trailers that had been loaded by shipping, inbound and outbound trailer recording, notifying carriers of empty trailers for pick up, checking seals on in and outbound trailers, etc. I took on on-call shifts for additional hours and often ended up with full time hours while being a part time employee. I was never afraid to work hard.

Placed into position with nobody to train me. Developed a computerized maintenance and repair program for the company trailers. Updated all driver files. Learned how to research and conduct weekly safety meetings to the best of my ability. Audit driver logs on computer.

I drove company car, was an owner operator, and a dispatcher for Coop Taxi for many years. I learned to dispatch during the weekends at night on my nights off. I learned how to plan routes and deal with customers on this job and would have to owe the many people I worked with and learned from a lot of gratitude.
