At The Basilica of Saint Mary, I have parlayed my two passions - ministry and music - into a full time job that provides creative and concrete ideas to those with whom I work. As director and only paid employee of the employment ministry, I work with those in varying stages of job transition. The ministry specializes in one on one help that includes a job posting database, small group workshops, and individual job coaching appointments. Over the eight years I have been involved, the ministry has grown substantially: from 300 participants to over 500, from two yearly workshops to 24 each year, and from three coaches to ten. I have also established ongoing partnerships with HIRED, EAC, the Workforce Center, and other training groups as well as local corporations and non profit organizations. The Basilica of Saint Mary Mental Health Ministry is in its seventh year. Under my direction we have established a strong parish/community led committee, a support network for those in need, and a diverse slate of programming. I have developed partnerships with NAMI-MN, Hazelden Foundation, Mankato State University, Westminster Counseling, Vail Place, and AccessAbility. A committee working on ministry to those with Developmental Disabilities will be started in March 2013 as will a support group for those suffering from Addiction.As wedding liturgy planner and cantor/soloist at The Basilica, I bring my 35 years of liturgy experience to the table when I am working with all couples who will be married at The Basilica. Working with others in the wedding ministry, the program has been named as the best place to be married in the Twin Cities for five years in a row.
