Wedding Planner Assistant
On a typical wedding day for Carly I am in charge of the reception, and checking in all vendors. I make sure that everything is set and ready to go when the guests as well as the bride and groom arrive at the reception. This includes coordinating with the florists, valet services, band/dj, caterer, wedding party, bride and groom, and venue staff. Working for Carly I have been able to make connections with vendors in the industry that I had worked with previously, and it has allowed me to even make a few vendor friends!
Wedding Planner Assistant
I started working for Kalee Baker in April of 2016. She is the first wedding planner I ever worked for, and she truly taught me the art of being behind the scenes and just how important a wedding day truly is. Since then I have served as a day of assistant for her, and have learned about how important it is to put one hundred and ten percent into each family that you serve. On a typical day for Kalee, I start mid-morning meeting and greeting the wedding party. Being with the wedding party throughout the day is one of the most entertaining and rewarding experiences. Along with making sure the wedding party stays according to schedule through out the day, I will check in vendors, set up ceremony details, and make sure that all family is taken care of through out the day. Working as a planner assistant is all about tending to the details, and this is where being detail-oritented plays to my advantage. Tending to these details, all while seeing the big picture at the same time and making sure your bride, families, and guests are all being taken of is all apart of the job.
Intern
Intern
I worked for Arden Upton during the summer that I worked for Windwood as she is part owner of the venue. Arden Upton is a well-known fine arts as well as wedding photographer. During the summer, my main focus was the blog and magazine submissions. I blogged each wedding that she would photograph, posted a photo of the week, along with going back to each couple for that week that she had photographed for the past five years and blogged a collaboration of photos wishing them all a happy anniversary. For every post I did no matter what the content, I would go through and pick out the pictures in Lightroom, so I became very familiar with the program. While working for Arden, I submitted each wedding she photographed to at least two magazines for submission. I kept organized records of my submissions in excel. Something trending in the industry that really says "thank you" to clients is a gift box. So, we put together a box for each client as a special thank you. I put together the boxes, each full of a candle, mini bottle of rose, a flash drive of their photos and a mini picture frame, and I delivered each box to the clients. This experience of working for a photographer was one of my favorite experiences in my career, because I learned so much more about the industry from a different perspective than I was use to.
Venue Manager
Windwood is a gorgeous wedding venue in Pelham, Alabama. I was hired as an intern in February 2017. It is a first class hunter jumper and dressage horse farm that is so pretty, people started wanting to get married there. The element of the venue being a horse farm provides an extra fun element to the wedding day experience. I will sometimes bring out a horse for pictures or even our miniature pony, "Phoenix", at the reception for guests to fawn over. For me and my job, every wedding is different. We have our own linens, so the bride usually does all the linens through us, and I am in charge of them on the day of the wedding. I make sure that all the layouts previously agreed upon are in place and ready for the caterer and florists when they arrive. If the bride does not have any coordinator at all, I will serve as the day-of coordinator. I will run rehearsal the day before and get all the details for the wedding day. If the bride does have a planner, then I will be her assistant, helping with anything that she may need. This past summer I also blogged for Windwood. I kept viewers up to date on the weddings that we had, along with providing creative inspiration for any wedding day.
