As the public relations & social media director, I oversaw the GOMB’s various social media accounts (along with the rest of the p.r. and social media staff), and organized our meetings at freshman orientation days and various high school marching competitions, where we promoted the Governors Own Marching Band and its annual event: GOMB Day (which featured over four hundred attendees in 2018; acquired through promotions in person and on social media). As a member of the GOMB’s leadership team, I assisted with keeping the piccolo section (and the entire ensemble) running efficiently and smoothly. Finally, I served as a liaison between my peers and the faculty that oversee GOMB.

As a freshman orientation leader, I assisted in introducing new, potential students (as well as transfer students) to Austin Peay and getting them acclimated to what the campus has to offer, both academically and personally. I welcomed parents to the university, answered questions and addressed concerns as needed to ensure that both parties were confident and comfortable with their child(s) new or potential home. As the first connection potential students and parents have, I served as an important liaison between the newcomers and the university. Finally, I ensured that each student made a positive connection with Austin Peay; with a new friend, the environment, or a professor or peer. Because of this, sales promotion skills were a necessity, as well as the ability to effectively communicate and make positive and genuine connections.

While working with the Symphony, I was able to experience a professional environment in a broader scale than what I had been exposed to previously. I was under several marketing professionals that handled different jobs, all of which I was able to assist with. The various tasks I was able to accomplish included attending concerts and interacting with patrons of the symphony and members of the surrounding community, distributing marketing materials to businesses in the Nashville area, and assisting with adding metadata and concert descriptions to the symphony’s website so that potential patrons would see listings on page searches. I amended one of the symphony’s social media sites: Meetup.com, and researched target groups for concerts. I also researched and contacted business with the intentions of recruiting them for the 2019-20 patron loyalty program. In addition to these activities, I was able to attend business meetings and witness professional discussions and activities, I shot pictures and videos for online content, and created Facebook events on the symphony's official page. Every project that I undertook helped develop me as a marketing professional and has allowed me to further explore the areas of marketing and communications that I would like to pursue as a career.
