My educational philosophy is based around the core values of commitment, compassion, integrity and reflection. These are values I expect of myself and of my students. We show our commitment by showing up to school ready to succeed, taking personal responsibility, persevering through and overcoming obstacles. We show our compassion by listening to and supporting others, being open to new or different perspectives and treating each other as human beings. The values of integrity are exemplified through our honesty, trustworthiness and willingness to take accountability. Reflection is seen when we explore ideas, ask meaningful questions of ourselves and take thoughtful risks. Using these values in the classroom to assess both myself and my students has helped me to meet their social, emotional and academic needs at once. This allows me to reach them on a deeper, more meaningful level, where authentic experiences and learning will occur. Students are encouraged to bring this philosophy with them when they leave school, applying it to their life and servicing their community.Specialties: High Poverty/High Needs Education, Writing Process, Service Learning, Reading Comprehension, Humanitarian Connections.
