As a child I fondly remember going to my local amusement park, Kennywood, and staring up in wonder at the gigantic beasts they called roller coasters. I saw the joy on the faces of everyone coming off the exit ramp, and even those who were terrified managed a slight smirk. While I was fascinated by the mechanics that made the machines possible, there was something more important beyond the nuts and bolts. From then on I knew I wanted to be an engineer. I wanted to have a direct positive impact on the lives of others, and engineering gives me that pathway.Today, I channel that childhood dream into my role as a systems engineer at Hitachi Rail. While the world of rail transportation may be a different from the thrill of roller coasters, I find immense fulfillment in engineering for humanity.
