Now retired as an ENR executive editor, Jan Tuchman is consulting on two of the media brand's wide portfolio of live and virtual events. She works with the ENR team developing content for the New York/New Jersey Infrastructure Forum and the LA Infrastructure Forum, created in partnership with Infrastructure LA.After serving as editor-in-chief for 20 years, Jan Tuchman she stepped down in 2022 to become Executive Editor for Events on Engineering News-Record's wide-ranging series. These major events included Groundbreaking Women in Construction, a career advancement event, and FutureTech, which explores the cutting edge of engineering and construction technology. Tuchman was active in construction organizations and nonprofits and continues to work on some. She just stepped down as chair of the Industry Leaders Council of the American Society of Civil Engineers and was the 2022 board chair of the nonprofit, Bridges to Prosperity, which works to alleviate poverty caused by rural isolation by building footbridges across raging rivers. She continues to serve as a member of the Columbia University Advisory Board on Infrastructure, Facilities and Public Spaces and is on several committees with the National Academy of Construction. Her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in journalism are from the University of Colorado in Boulder.Her most recent recognition is the Ted C. Kennedy Award in 2020 from the National Academy of Construction, the group’s highest honor. Other honors include: the Carroll H. Dunn Award from the Construction Industry Institute for “outstanding contributions to improving the cost-effectiveness of the U.S. construction industry; the ECC Achievement Award from the Engineering and Construction Contracting Association, a group that drives excellence in construction; the Beaver’s “Service and Supply” Award for outstanding achievement in heavy engineering construction; and the G.D. Crain Award for Distinguished Editorial Career from a leading business information group called Connectiv.She lives in Park Slope, Brooklyn, with husband Joseph Rosta, a poet and singer. Daughter Celia is a Ph.d. in cultural anthropology and an visiting professor at Dennison University. Activities include singing with the Brooklyn Community Chorus and with Project Harmony, an interfaith singing group of Congregation Beth Elohim and the Antioch Baptist Church.
