I researched and wrote over 600 data-driven articles. I investigated what was happening and why, and I produced many articles about route profitability (using RDC Aviation data) and new route opportunities.I interviewed dozens of senior management at companies globally, and I attended and led the production of glossy Show Daily magazines at Routes, IATA Slots, and Connect events worldwide.

My time as Lecturer was mainly concerned with teaching and related activities. I taught multiple applied management undergraduate modules, both in class and online. This included on our flexible distance learning top-up, mainly chosen by airline pilots wishing to enter management. I played a key role in the delivery of MSc Air Transport Management, and I created and ran a brand-new MSc module: Ancillary Revenues. I was also involved in the new direction of our postgraduate offering. Most of the above modules clearly indicate my interest in commercial, strategy, and development sides of management.During my time as Lecturer, I learnt/developed my ability as a teacher, especially regarding honing presentation skills, deciding what works to engage/motivate students, and to work out how best to challenge them.

While a part-time Associate Lecturer, my primary responsibility was the organisation, delivery, and assessment of three applied management modules across all undergraduate years. I was also a dissertation supervisor for six students. I enjoyed the challenges presented as a new lecturer, and I was happy to assume the responsibilities of a permanent member of staff while he was off sick for six months.

Airline Information is a well-established provider of aviation conferences, networking events, forums, and workshops for senior airline management across the world, with over 200 airlines attending their events. Predominately focusing on commercial areas, especially ancillary revenues (and multiple aspects of it), customer loyalty, distribution, payment, and prevention of payment fraud, Airline Information also offers an advisory service and various publications. These publications include Airline Payments Handbook, FFP Guide and Directory, Selling in the Sky, and Ancillary Revenue Report in collaboration with IdeasWorksCompany.I managed the marketing and selling of our events and publications to meaningfully increase attendance at our events and thus revenues. This was based upon effectively utilising our database of 28,000 managers and other professionals across airlines and suppliers in terms of tailor-making sales approaches and engaging in direct selling. Alongside this, I monitored personnel turnover and airline start-ups daily as Airline Information's consulting and conference divisions relied on the most up-to-date database. Working alongside the Managing Partners, I also helped run their events around the world. The Youth Hostels Association (YHA) has a long history of enabling young people, school groups, families, and independent walkers and cyclists to explore England and Wales, particularly within areas of natural beauty. A registered charity, YHA is an excellent place in which to quickly gain hands-on and relevant experience within the crucial hospitality industry.YHA actively encourages its employees to move around their network of hostels to gain experience of facilities of different sizes, different types of customer, and different locations each with different needs. This thereby ensures that their employees are more rounded and knowledgeable across their operation and can see challenges and opportunities from a different perspective. During the five years working for them, I worked in three different locations: Chester; Llanberis (at the foot of Mount Snowdon); and Stow-on-the-Wold. Beyond motivating staff, I organised staff rotas and directly engaged in staff recruitment, performance reviews, and discipline. Beyond this, I had a very broad range of roles and responsibilities both day-to-day and less usual while regularly problem-solving. These day-to-day roles included front-of-house (serving and helping customers, payment handling, system processing, banking, and administration); catering (planning menus, ordering, organising rotas, and cooking); and in-room (ensuring systems were followed for maximum order and cleanliness). Most enjoyably, I was tasked with devising ways of generating more income, both from bed sales and from ancillary sources. I worked on various projects, including creating a new café; a new bar; internet facilities; really pushing group bookings; and developing links with local tourist attractions.
