I used to be a preacher.On the opposite side of the globe, I counseled families, led worship gatherings, and provided relief goods to communities. Despite the culture shock and language barriers experienced in a third-world country, I had a dream that I was determined to fulfill: Improving the lives of those under my care by creating positive culture change. Very quickly, I learned just how contagious a heartfelt dream can be! But, just as fast, I also learned that tropical diseases and Category 5 hurricanes tend not to care what we dream about. So, in the final year of my program, I had no choice but to walk away from it all.I look back fondly on that time because, even up to my last moments of service, I stuck to my convictions. Due to the wholehearted vision that I was able to share, I always found remarkable people by my side.That being said, there are three things that I’ve come to firmly believe and live by:1. Love is a universal language and superpower.2. It’s better to be respected for authenticity than liked for pretending.3. Kindness and care may be reciprocated when you least expect it.I’m blessed to say that I get to witness all of these being practiced today in my place of work. Currently, I’m the People & Culture Officer at Catered Too. While our staff is providing exceptional event and dining experiences across the Bay Area and Silicon Valley, I’m collaborating with our management team to cultivate a deep and fulfilling company culture that everyone rightly deserves. It’s true—I had a dream that may not have panned out exactly as I planned… but now, I’m in the business of making others' come true.
