I work with Plan 65, our Medicare supplemental insurance for seniors. I take calls from members and healthcare providers asking about anything from payments to benefits to the status of claims. I enjoy the variety each day presents as well as the satisfaction of doing the research to ease someone's frustration and help them understand a particular situation.

Heartland Works coordinates a number of federal grants all aimed at getting people back into the workforce. I was at the administrative office, assisting staff in five field offices with day-to-day processes as well as taking on a wide variety of projects relating to the multiple grants.

Lawrence, Kansas

I administered the federal Workforce Investment Act grant, helping customers find employment through everything from targeting job searching to assisting with tuition funds for retraining into high demand occupations.

Basically, this means I worked with the educational agencies and universities around the state of Kansas to promote both the centralization of data and the use of that data in research to improve instruction in the state.

I taught 3rd grade and 5th grade for a year each, then spent three years as librarian in a K-8 school.

I spent six great years as a 4th grade teacher.
