It is my honor to serve and inspire both secondary student learners and teachers alike in the subject of mathematics. My current pedagogy and focus of inquiry in mathematics is challenging the traditional role of the math student as a passive receiver of knowledge, and the preponderance of evidence is coming out in support of making sure students are actively engaged in productive struggle (struggle that allows an entry point for success, either through the application of prior knowledge/skills or through reasoning, pattern recognition, or the exploration of multiple representations of a mathematical concept) with support from a teacher and materials that ensure and require the explicit attention to mathematical concepts. I want our math students to feel like they have strategies and basic mathematical fluency that allows them to persevere in and enjoy the process of learning challenging and applicable math.
