Steigerwald Lake National Wildlife Refuge

-Work alongside Refuge Staff to recruit, train, and supervise volunteers to fulfill the Fish and Wildlife Services mission of working with others, to conserve, protect and enhance fish, wildlife, and plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people.-Manage volunteers participating in habitat restoration to maintain and enhance almost two thousand acres of floodplain habitat at the three National Wildlife Refuges in the Columbia River Gorge; Steigerwald Lake, Franz Lake, and Pierce NWR. -Manage outreach and interpretation volunteers in programs on- and off-site. This includes establishing a Trail Stewards program, coordinating over 40 guided walks a year with over 400 participants, as well as participating in 14 community events each year. -Manage volunteer databases which include personnel records, hours served, and certifications.-Maintain an accurate volunteer program budget.-Provide volunteer enrichment opportunities for regular volunteers.-Plan, organize, and coordinate special Refuge events such as two Bioblitzs and a Restoration Celebration event. -Work with USFWS Urban Wildlife Conservation Program staff to offer more inclusive opportunitiesto underserved communities and in developing an evaluation program for our target audiences. -Build and maintain partnerships to work towards a shared goal.-Maintain Refuge facilities (as needed), coordinate contractor repairs, mow with agricultural tractor (when needed), scrape entrance road and public parking lot (when needed).-Supervise and work alongside social media and trail camera volunteer. Participate in organization evaluation and Board recruitment. -Post and maintain regular outreach to recruit volunteers from college, school, online, business, and community resources -Lead in coordinating the completion of the annual ricefield bulrush program control and search goals. -Organize and conduct volunteer invasive plant control events (lead 2 volunteer field work parties each week for 11 weeks) by recruiting, selecting, training, and supervising volunteers in the field. -Work independently or with groups to locate, record, and remove ricefield bulrush and other invasive plants from the Refuge. -Record and enter volunteer and field data as collected during volunteer events and solo field days and produce maps. -Complete a final report summarizing the project -Assist as needed with other related habitat program duties including invasive plant searches at other Refuges.
