Recently, I had the opportunity to lead the Structures / Spec Ops sub-team and to coordinate with 3 other sub-teams to design, build, and optimize a mission-capable remote-controlled airplane for an international competition, competing against over 100 teams.Key achievements and contributions include:Team Leadership and Collaboration: Managed a sub-team of over 7 engineering students, ensuring seamless coordination with other sub-teams to achieve our project goals.Technical Proficiency: Developed and implemented sizing and optimization scripts in MATLAB and Python, enabling data-driven decisions that doubled our score forecast while adhering to dozens of strict mission requirements.Performance Analysis: Analyzed data from failed flight tests, identifying critical areas for improvement. This analysis led to enhancements that allowed for five additional test flights.Design and Evaluation: Designed and evaluated airframe components within SolidWorks, ensuring sufficient strength during both nominal and high g maneuvers, with results verified through hand calculations.Report Development: Created comprehensive technical proposals and reports for both preliminary and final designs, adhering to strict deadlines and maintaining high standards of readability and understandability.As a result of the team’s hard work, we placed among the top 20 reports and were able to successfully fly at the competition. However, as a result of unexpectedly rough landing, the airplane sustained sufficient damage to prevent completion of all missions.
