Illustrative Duties:Responds to fire alarms and a variety of emergency calls;Connects hose to hydrant, and pulls and deploys pre-connected hose lines;Wearing self-contained breathing apparatus and protective clothing, enters burning buildings with hose lines;Operates a nozzle and places a stream of water on a fire;Ventilates burning buildings by opening windows/skylights or by opening holes in roofs/floors;Operates chemical and hand extinguishers;Raises, lowers and climbs ladders;Uses radio and computer-aided dispatch equipment;Drives motorized apparatus in emergency and non-emergency conditions;Operates fire pumps at proper pressures and flows;Searches for victims in burning, smoke-filled buildings or other hazardous environments;Administers first aid to injured persons;Takes vital signs and stabilizes patient;Collects pertinent information for patient assessment, including the patient’s medical history and conducts assessment for treatment of a patient with trauma-induced injuries;Assists in the search and recovery of drowned victims;Operates emergency lighting appliances;Restores apparatus and equipment to service after use;Maintains specialized fire equipment and protective gear;Studies area geography, street names and locations, target hazards, pre-plans, water supply, and other firefighting resources;Studies building construction to identify structural weaknesses and fire behavior;Instructs citizens in fire prevention and life safety techniques;Examines building plans for pre-fire planning purposes;Pre-plans for fires in residential, industrial and commercial buildings areas to provide information regarding hydrant locations, exposures, types of occupancy, and areas of high life or monetary loss risk;Recognizes and preserves evidence on the causes of fires;Performs public relations duties (e.g., teaching school children about fire safety).

Northern Virginia Regional Intelligence Center (Nvric)

Serve as the regional Fire/EMS/Health Security Intelligence Liaison providing strategic intelligence to public and private partners. Provides training to various customer sets on Suspicious Activity Reporting based upon various indicators and behaviors. Provides support during significant incidents. Develops products that pertain to standing information needs.

Served as the shift commander, responsible for all personnel and emergency service units assigned to the station. Complete training and reports, employee reviews, physical fitness, and other duties on a daily basis. Respond to emergencies and mitigate incidents.

Fire Station 410-C

Illustrative Duties:Ensures that the functional unit to which assigned (e.g., engine company, ladder truck, or rescue squad) is maintained ready to respond to emergency calls;Keeps abreast of changes in techniques, procedures, equipment, and regulations;Responds to emergency incidents and directs the activities of the crew;Assumes command at the scene of an incident until relieved by a higher-ranking officer;Makes decisions and directs subordinates as to the best method for combating fires and copingwith other emergency situations;Participates in fire suppression and rescue activities;Conducts patient assessment (e.g., evaluates the respiratory, cardiovascular, and central nervoussystems);Treats general medical emergencies (e.g., injuries, sickness) and trauma-induced wounds;Performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation;Supervises, plans, organizes, coordinates and evaluates the work of assigned staff;Serves as a coach and mentor in the professional development of subordinates;Participates in all required training and maintains all professional certifications to ensureoperational readiness at all times;Maintains records and completes reports;Serves on various committees;Completes special projects as required;Participates in fire suppression and rescue activities;

Illustrative Duties:Delivers suppression related classroom training to recruits;Conducts and oversee live fire exercises;Participates in daily recruit physical fitness;Develops Quarterly In-Station Drills;Facilitates and develops Officer Development Schools;Facilitates and develops Truck Company Operations Schools;Facilitates NFPA-1403 complaints “Live Burns.”

Illustrative Duties:Drives a pumper or ladder truck to/from alarms;Operates a pumper at draft or fire hydrant;Inspects vehicles and mechanical equipment to ensure that they are working properly, and reports malfunctions to supervisor;Performs routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment and maintains vehicle log book;Trains Firefighters in the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of firefighting and rescue apparatus;Coordinates and oversees work details at the station or at incidents;
