Project:Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX): Sky Train Stage 2 - 24th St. Station"Phase 2 of the PHX Sky Train® is underway. This is an extension to the existing PHX Sky Train®, which currently operates between the 44th Street PHX Sky Train® Station and Terminal 3. When complete and operational in 2022, the line will extend 2.5 miles to the Rental Car Center.The 24th Street PHX Sky Train® Station will feature a convenient option for travelers arriving from the West Valley and downtown, with improved access to and from nearby freeways. It will include approximately 1,600 economy parking spaces with public and commercial passenger pick-up and drop-off at curbside. Like the other PHX Sky Train® Stations, travelers will be only minutes from the terminals.The Phoenix City Council approved the extension of the PHX Sky Train® from the airport terminals to the Rental Car Center in October 2016.Benefits include enhancement of customer service and improved accessibility, especially for customers using wheelchairs. It will also take traffic off of Sky Harbor Boulevard, easing transit to and from the terminals.This $745 million project will be paid for with Rental Car Customer Facility Charges and airline Passenger Facility Charges. Summer InternshipProject:Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) - Southwest Airlines Tech Ops Hangar Facility"To accommodate the relocation of both the Provo and GSE operations, an area has been identified along the eastern edge of the site that is currently used for Southwest employee parking. A new single story building is anticipated to house both operations. Due to the proximity of the existing taxi-lane, runway, and blast fence the new building construction should mitigate sound and exhaust transmission inside the space. Construction is anticipated to be full height concrete block walls with high performance sound mitigating windows and doors. The roof structure is to achieve a minimum R-value of 30 and an STC rating of 50. Due to height restriction in this area and current elevation grades, the building is expected to step approximately 6’ from the south end up to the north.
