Equipment development and manufacturing at Astute Medical• Lead role in conceptualization, prototyping, design and manufacturing of semi-automated machines, jigs and fixtures.• Performed engineering for all subsystems excluding Software. • Mechanical, Electrical and Controls design and fabrication. Quantitative fluorescence meter R&D at Astute Medical• Performed rigorous experimentation and data analysis for development of meter algorithms.• Troubleshooting of issues found in electronic hardware of meter. Examples of equipment designed and built:• Cryogenic reagent bead freezing system. Developed and built automated system that cryogenically freezes 10µL liquid reagent drops with a ~1% CV. Throughput of 18000 beads/hr replaced 1000 beads/hr manual process (18X throughput improvement). Machine fits in a 30”x36” footprint, which is smaller than the existing manual process. • Automated barcode printing system. Developed and built 2 examples of a conveyor-based system which prints 2D barcodes, takes dimensional measurements via machine vision, decodes and grades barcodes. Nonconforming parts are rejected automatically. Throughput is 1200 units/hr with 100% on-line inspection and segregation of nonconforming product. • Antibody drying tunnel. Developed conveyor-based radiant heat drying machine for drying assay for IVD test strip manufacturing. • Jig for loading lyophilized reagent beads into vials. Throughput of 2400 beads/hr vs. manual process throughput of 350 beads/hr (7X throughput improvement). Reduced fallout and improved quality.
