The Power of Destruction.Growing up, I would disassemble every toy or gadget I owned in order to better understand how they function and the goal was always to rebuild to full functionality. There were an abundance of successes, but success didn’t come without losses — just like life. The failures didn’t dampen my “what’s inside” curiosity, they only taught me to apply the knowledge gained to ensure my next project’s success. I attribute my most notable wins to my deeply inquisitive nature which helps me understand why things or processes exist and opportunities to rebuild, reimagine and innovate.I applied the idea of Destruction as an instructional tool to my role as an educator after observing how reserved students were with hands-on lab activities in Robotics. After my first lesson, I noticed an almost immediate change in the manner in which students approached foreign technologies and ideas; they were now fearless learners. I used qualitative observations to provide students feedback to guide their learning and quickly learned the value of reciprocal feedback when I decided to solicit feedback on instruction from students in the form of a short 10 question survey. After collecting responses, I made alterations to my lessons and class participation, test scores (in all classes) and innovation skyrocketed. The spark I was missing was ignited. I knew then that data was the new oil and I'd found my niche. I was privileged to make use of diverse views and opinions to create solutions that foster productivity and innovation.I decided to combine my desire for problem-solving, my knowledge of people and technologies to my role as Dallas Public Library's Manager of Statistics and Strategic Planning. I enjoy collecting and dissecting human-centered data to create innovative business solutions geared toward growth.My specialties include quickly learning new skills, Data Analysis, Data Visualizations, Tableau, SQL, R, Python, Curriculum Design, and Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Captivate).
