In 1995, I earned a Bachelors Degree in Business Management from Grand Valley State University. After graduation I conitued to work for Brook Valley Homes in the northern Oakland county area and became a Licensed Residential Builder in the State of Michigan in 1996. While working for Brook Valley Homes I gained valuable hands-on knowledge of quality building practices. I was fortunate to be involved with all phases of construction including site development and custom finish carpentry.In 2008, I became employed by the Detroit Housing Commission (DHC). DHC is a HUD agency which owns and operates a property inventory including 15 high-rises, 9 townhouse style communities and 200 single family homes. At DHC I was responsible for managing up to $26 million annually in open Capital Fund Program (CFP) federal grants used to modernization DHC properties. At DHC I managed special projects such as $17.2 million in ARRA funds, the planning for a $17.4 million Energy Performance Contract and the development of a $6.5 million emergency Capital Fund Reserve grant award. I also handled demolition, disposition activity, Section 3 reporting, Department of Labor compliance, energy upgrades and environmental compliance. DHC allowed me to be involved with a wide variety of professional activities such as managing architects, construction managers, environmental engineers and general contractors. I benefited from numerous continuing education and career development trainings including Contract Management, Procurement, Mixed Finance, PBV, Public Housing Manager, LEED and Energy Performance Contract training.In May 2019, I accepted the position of Director of Development with Flint Housing Commission. With the help of our development partner, MHT Housing, we completed the successful RAD conversion of 4 PH properties. Special thanks to MSHDA, NEF and Reno & Cavanaugh for a successful collaboration. While in Flint, I had the true fortune to work on both a Choice Implementation and Choice Planning grant. What an amazing experience to help families achieve goals the never imagined. In November of 2024, I joined CVR Associates. I look forward to work alongside many industry leaders. I will be working in areas of public housing asset repositioning, Capital Fund, Modernization, RAD and Section 18. I may even have the opportunity to work in the Choice Neighborhood program.
