Lead architect and director for RiskBand ARIES, a SaaS B2B wearable IoT device for personal safety and security that has saved lives and enabled assailants to be captured and prosecuted. Devices are custom manufactured, capable of two-way audio, GPS, photo capture, impact/fall detection, custom policies, and more. Successfully launched early 2019. Customers included Dollar General, Sally Beauty, Everbridge, FedEx, and Interface Security Systems.Gained alignment on minimal viable product and product vision, then personally implemented the RESTful server, GUI, CLI, and SDK. This included scalable, low-latency web services exceeding 99.99% availability. While quickly growing the team, cultivated a healthy team culture for our division of mostly senior engineers, managing managers, and building relationships and working regularly with executives and Board members internal & external to the company. Responsible for all hardware and software development; requirement, design, and API specs; quality metrics and initiatives, including landing the >90% code coverage and pre-prod initiatives; product documentation and training; corporate and dev IT systems, including dev ops and cloud; third party and customer integrations; release lifecycle management; compliance and governance; roadmaps; and more. Note that I dropped to part-time consulting March 2022 to accept a CTO opportunity elsewhere.

Spearheaded an in-depth analysis and identified issues with current products, methodologies, tech stacks, designs, and culture that necessitated my hire. Developed a strategic plan with the CEO to address short- and long-term needs, delivering over 100 pages of strategic roadmap, product definition, and technical debt remediation material. Assisted the CEO in presenting our recommendations to the Board of Directors. Resigned after 4 months, a first and only in my career.

Lead architect for the N-tiered Black Pearl product line, which presents tape storage over an innovative AWS S3-like interface as a private cloud offering. Globally deployed since 2014, Black Pearl is a business line extension product that has improved product margins, cost competitiveness, and the product supportability model by replacing expensive third-party middleware software and appliances that manage tape robotics and other complexities with Black Pearl.Users work with an AWS S3-like object store called DS3 (Deep Simple Storage Service), where a single object can exceed a petabyte (S3 is limited to 5 terabytes) and a single cloud instance can exceed thousands of petabytes. Data is transmitted in a distributed, concurrent manner to achieve >10gbps per server node. Functionality includes highly customizable replication between Black Pearls and/or public clouds, end-to-end CRC, data persistence rules and fault domain definition to avoid correlated system failures, and a wide variety of import/export/restore/DR workflows.

Within 9 months, recognized as a top individual contributor. A year later, became the technical lead and architect for the N-tiered next-generation GUI for the Axiom, a SAN and NAS data storage product. This was a green-field project that has been globally deployed since 2011. Since, multiple product reviews from storage industry magazines praised the UI design, the system has proven to be easily adapted for new features, and other groups adopted its framework components.

An entrepreneur at heart, started my first business in IT at 15, and my second at 19. Developed various products across dozens of clients in both public and private sectors. Also consulted as a security analyst and forensics investigator, having earned some clients by offering to break into their systems remotely with their consent, then doing so. Held a security clearance for work performed at the INL, the nation's leading center for nuclear energy research and development.
