As a strategic partner in the Global Sports Innovation Centre, I led a review of the highly publicised system Microsoft built for Real Madrid. I have a broad range of duties in this fresh and exciting start-up. Responsible for the entire technology stack, I manage two near-shore development teams in Romania and Ukraine, I oversee all third-party connections, and I am the product owner & senior designer of the 2nd generation system, encompassing mobile applications and back-end services. Soon after joining I had significantly reduced projected costs by re-aligning the technology roadmap and selecting more appropriate vendors and solutions. I helped raise £1m+ of investment, giving presentations and dealing with technical due diligence requirements. I am responsible for a budget c. £3/4m. I designed the new products, I lead the development, and I handle the deployment of the iPhone and Android apps, the web sites, the service layer API, the logic layer, the databases, the external API and mobile SDK, the Salesforce app, and the social media integrations with Facebook and Twitter.

Samba is a B2C system offering free mobile broadband in exchange for watching adverts. It has featured on the BBC, Wired, and the Sunday Times.A start-up with a tight timeframe and budget. I designed and developed the system and took the concept to production in 4 months - on time and within budget. I did the business analysis and the functional and technical designs. I coached the project sponsors, employed a team of offshore developers, and ensured the system would scale easily. Selected and managed the cloud-based production environment. Developed browser plugins for Firefox and Chrome, developed iPad and iPhone apps, and developed a custom Dongle Connection Manager software for PCs and Macs. I also did technical integrations with '3' (Hutchinson 3G) for mobile data services, ZTE for custom dongle hardware, and internet advertising providers including Unruly, GoViral, and VAN. Project managed using Gemini (issue tracker) and svn (source control).

I was responsible for several projects. I met clients and helped them refine their ideas, managed budgets ($200,000 – $1.2m range), managed projects, and presented to senior management. I hired and trained a team of 30 developers in Romania. I defined the development standards that were used to successfully build systems including a large CRM system for State Farm. I designed the security systems and protocols used on a system to audit users and help enforce State Farm’s internal security policy.

Co-founded Narrowstep in 2002. Took the company from 3 employees to over 50. The business ent public in 2006. Responsible for all technology decisions, managing budget and revenue expectations, overseeing the growth and managing the development and operational support teams, and mentoring the Board when necessary. Annual budget in 2006 was £1.5m. Grew the technical teams to 15 strong, the system to over 500 active channels, storing more than one million video clips, streaming 120TB per month, serving 20 million videos to 2 million viewers (December 2007 figures). Built 3 PoPs and one of the first CDNs on the internet. The system was designed to be continuously available, scale easily, and manage viewer spikes. Clients included ITV Local, Virgin Media, and Telephonica Spain and Peru.

Annual budgets from £600,000 to £1m. Annual group turnover exceeded $8bn in 1999. Assessed, specified, and managed the budget for the security needs of the organisation. Delivered a global VPN and intranet to all sites. Secured critically important systems and implemented multi-layered anti-virus system that was responsible for saving $1bn of reputational damage.
