Assist operating the Civil Appellate Section by, for example, organizing continuing legal education and networking events.

My primary focus as a senior legal officer for UT Austin was advising leadership on major legal questions, including those involving the application of new statutes and court decisions, navigation of conflicting state and federal laws, and university operations in highly regulated fields. As necessary, I also supervised litigation by outside counsel and represented the university in responding to and assisting in federal investigations.

During my time with the Office of the Solicitor General, I represented the State of Texas, its agencies, and officers in complex appeals before the United States Supreme Court, federal courts of appeals, and Texas appellate courts. My work included authoring merits and amicus briefs, orally arguing cases, and assisting other divisions within the Texas Attorney General's office with trial strategy and error preservation. In four years with the Office of the Solicitor General, I first-chaired more than 30 appeals, arguing 18 of them—including before the en banc Fifth Circuit, and authoring more than 50 briefs.

While part of Mayer Brown's appellate practice, I first- and second-chaired more than 40 appeals, including several before the U.S. Supreme Court. My responsibilities included special emphasis on brief writing and argument. I was the primary author of more than 25 appellate briefs and assisted on many more. In addition to my brief-writing responsibilities, I argued appeals in the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Fourth and Seventh Circuits. I also practiced regularly in trial courts, drafting motions, preparing jury charges, and ensuring that important issues were preserved for appeal. As part of my trial practice, I drafted more than 30 dispositive motions and argued motions in court on numerous occasions.My caseload was varied and included litigating class actions, mass torts, products liability claims, contract disputes, and suits arising under state and federal consumer protection laws.
