While on active duty, I held the following positions:- Administrative Law Attorney (Pentagon). I advised Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps regarding federal privacy laws, federal benefits, First Amendment issues, federal regulations, and personnel matters. I reviewed and provided legal advice regarding numerous investigations. I was a member of several working groups regarding compliance with and implementation of federal law and regulation.- Senior Defense Attorney (Marine Corps Base Hawaii). I supervised criminal defense attorneys and paralegals. I represented clients in all aspects of the litigation process. I served as lead counsel in more than 85 felony- and misdemeanor-level federal cases, including 10 trials to verdict.- Infantry Battalion Legal Counsel, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines (Afghanistan). I advised an infantry battalion of more than 950 personnel during combat operations regarding use of force, International Humanitarian Law, and detainee operations. I also conducted numerous meetings with Afghan Government officials to enhance rule of law initiatives and assist in skills-development of local legal officials.- Deputy Legal Counsel, Joint Task Force Caring Response (Thailand). I provided legal advice to Joint Task Force Caring Response, a USAID and U.S. Department of Defense coordinated effort that delivered nearly $1.2 million of U.S. relief supplies to more than 113,000 beneficiaries in Burma following Cyclone Nargis, the worst natural disaster in Burma's history.- Prosecutor (Marine Corps Base Hawaii). I served as lead counsel in more than 40 federal cases, including two jury trials to verdict. I represented the federal government in in all aspects of the litigation process.- Guest lecturer at Emory University School of Law. I presented lectures regarding international humanitarian law and military criminal law and procedure.

As the second-highest court in Indiana, the Indiana Court of Appeals hears appeals from the state’s trial courts and some state agencies. The Indiana Court of Appeals is a single court comprised of 15 appellate judges. The Court issues approximately 2,000 written opinions each year. A decision of the Indiana Court of Appeals is final unless granted further review by the Indiana Supreme Court. The Court hears cases only in three-judge panels. All panels have statewide jurisdiction and rotate three times per year.As a post-J.D. law clerk for Judge Friedlander, I drafted approximately 50 bench memoranda for civil and criminal appeals and assisted Judge Friedlander in preparation for and evaluation of oral arguments. I also extensively researched state and federal law.
