As an Entrepreneur in Residence, I provided strategic consulting and mentoring for CEO’s and Founders of the startups in the Center, as well as participating in evaluating candidates for the incubator. Several of our companies went on to substantial growth and success, and the Center continues to operate as one of the leading incubators in Portland.

Fios is a $25M+ Portland based technology services company that is one of four Tier 1 companies in the rapidly growing electronic discovery market. Combining enterprise unstructured data analysis and preservation with litigation support technology, Fios helps enterprises (Fortune 50) and large law firms (Amlaw 100) collect, preserve, process, review and produce enterprise data (e-mail, Office documents, and other forms of business information) that is relevant to specific legal matters or government compliance.

Responsible for all electronic document management services (scanning, coding, printing) and for the creation and development of electronic discovery services.** Grew the division from an annual $350K of revenue to a run-rate of $1.4M in 12 months.** Evaluated and implemented e-discovery support technology and services, representing over $500K of the increased revenues.** Designed and implemented processes for project analysis, tracking, customer communications, and training on e-discovery tools.** Personally analyzed, presented, and landed all e-discovery and new imaging clients and projects since March 2003 including cases such as MGM vs Grokster, the peer-to-peer music piracy litigation.

Explorati was an interactive entertainment technology startup, building massively multi-user community software and interactive storytelling AI. Our clients included Procter & Gamble Productions and Playboy Enterprises. Explorati’s proprietary technology pioneered key features to expand the market for interactive entertainment into the mainstream consumer audience.As Founder and CEO:** Led company from day one, including the recruiting of all engineers, executives, and advisors.** Personally handled all fund raising, successfully raising $1.4M from angel investors including top executives of bamboo/IPIX, Amgen, Sapient Health Networks/Web MD, and Chart One Medical.** Personally handled all sales and business development in landing Procter & Gamble and Vivendi, and the signing of all major business partners for equity only.** Architected and authored all business strategy, executive summaries, business plans, fund raising documents, and marketing materials.

COMPEX became the industry leader by aggressive use of technology and delivering the highest quality customer care (as measured by its 60,000 attorney customers) at the lowest cost in the industry (paid for by its 150 nation-wide insurance customers).** Improved customer services over 70% by implementing total client service teams supported by multimedia call center and customer relationship management systems** Reduced error rates by 90% while cutting order throughput time by 50% ** Designed and implemented revenue enhancements and new product features, generating an additional $1.8M annually. ** Recruited key executives away from Compex’s largest competitors.** Cut annual operating expenses by $4.2M. ** Created the strategic systems plan to re-design business operations and move to tight Internet integration of customers, employees and suppliers.
