Methylation of the human PDX1 promoter in stem cells:Promoter= Prof. N. BuysCo-promoter= Prof. C. VerfaillieDNA methylation of the PDX1 promoter was compared between different (stem) cells. This gene is important in the development of beta cells in the pancreas. Consequently, the influence of demethylating agents and HDAC inhibitors on the methylation status of the promoter was investigated. Opening up chromatine and thereby driving expression PDX1 is thought to be important in the treatment of diabetes. In additional experiments, the proportion of methylation of the promoter of OCT4, a gene important for pluripotency, was investigated in different types of stem cells and compared to the corresponding differentiation capacity.
