Being a Zone head I have to perform administrative, judicial, Revenue and legal functions. Administrative Duties -Placement of unit officers/ officials -Supervision of their performance -Approval of TA/ DA, medical bills, rewards, loans, advances etc- Suspensions and inquiries Revenue duties -Forecasting and Planning -Fixation of Revenue targets for unit officers - Monitoring of withholding taxes-Recovery of current and arrears of Tax demand s-Ensuring achievement of budgetary targets Legal functions -Defending assessments before CIR Appeals - Filing of appeals before Inland Revenue Appellate Tribunals - Filing of references and intra court appeals before High Court- Filing of CPLAs before Supreme Court -Presenting departmental stance before Federal Tax Ombudsman Judicial functions- Amendments in assessments- Cancellation of assessments - Inspection of assessments framed by unit officers Taxpayers education and facilitation -Issuance of refunds -redressal of complaints and grievances of taxpayers - Educating taxpayers about tax policies - Coordination with chamber of commerce & industry and other trade bodies

My main responsibility in this role was to ensure achievement of budgetary targets; facilitation of taxpayers and effective utilization of staff assigned. The main duties in this role included:• Attending & ensuring prompt response to taxpayers’ requests, complaints & queries.• Developing strategy for achieving revenue targets of the unit.• Coordination with trade bodies, taxpayers associations and taxpayers representatives.• Arranging seminars, workshops and corner meetings for education and facilitation of taxpayers.• Audit, examination and evaluation of books of accounts of tax payers.• Assessment of income and wealth in order to determine the tax liabilities.• Investigation of refund applications, determination and issuance of refunds.• Negotiating, making arrangements for the collection/recovery of due taxes, fines, penalties.• Appearing in Appellate Courts as Departmental Representative.• Optimum utilization of human resources, nomination of staff members for enhancing job related skills, coordinating training of officials with Directorate of training.• Organizing operations and procedures to guide staff in the office.• Preparing time sheets and controlling office correspondence.• Assigning duties and monitoring and supervising secretarial and clerical functions among staff members.• Evaluation and recognition of performance, coaching and motivating staff.

This role required to perform administrative as well as legal duties within assigned area of jurisdiction. The key skills I learned during my time in this job include: • Coordination with police and other civic facility providers including departments of health, education, irrigation, agriculture, civil defence and trade bodies etc for maintenance of law & order and provision of services.• Preparation of annual budget and annual development program of town committee.• Organizing day to day operations of court, scheduling of court cases, file management, case management.• Issuance of notices summons and warrants.• Taking oaths, granting and amending bails.• Attestations of affidavits and other legal documents.• Conducting trials of the offenders including framing of charge sheet, recording of evidence, hearing of prosecution as well as defense arguments and pronouncing the final judgement.• Co-ordination with probation authorities.• Conducting identification parades of accused persons in prisons.• Granting physical and judicial remand of accused persons.• Transferring and disposing records in accordance with retention schedules and policies.
