Industrial Designer
• Designed custom EVA foam inserts for Pelican and Nanuk hardcases, for professional cinematography equipment.• Used a 3-axis CNC mill to help fabricate cases. Optimized toolpath generation in Fusion 360 for an efficient production schedule. Utilized high-speed metal machining principles and adapted them to cutting medium density EVA foam.• Collected and processed 3D scans of customer's gear using Creaform HandySCAN, handheld scanner.
Industrial Designer
• Housing design for an Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) appliance; complete design from concept development to advanced prototying. Included a basic branding guideline package.• Concept and prototype CAD for a small line of furniture for a client for flat-pack shipping, with robust structure design for heavy household loads.• Completed housing design for a table-top pharmaceutical appliance. Detailed CAD.• Concept development for exhibition space TV towers. Combined organic architecture with functional design elements based on existing technology tools.• Design visualization for a startup developing a household composting product to reduce waste and encourage household reduction of carbon footprints.• Developed housing and component layout for a counter-top water purifier. Designed to meet fixed hardpoints and manufacturability considerations. Performed basic engineering analysis for noise and vibration abatement.• Designed and modeled a mass-produce-able apple-corer and slicer for a client to address a market gap of larger slicers. Utilized universal design principles in developing the handles for a variety of grip-strengths and palm-sizes. Using Autodesk Fusion 360 simulation tools, performed an elementary stress analysis to design a durable product.• High-level concept design of an internet of things (IoT) based mobile coffee cart. General housing design and workflow mapping.
Design Teaching Support
• Assisting the instructors in delivering a fourth-year course on industrial design principles.• Consultant to the students on the course's major safety design project and also for regular in-class assignments.• Providing feedback and guidance to students on basic design activities: ideation, prototype-modeling, and presentations.• Critiquing and offering feedback to students on their work and providing supplementary grading of in-class coursework.
Mechanical & Industrial Designer
• Developed two iterations for the helicopter's hub assembly: including functional ideation, CAD and CAE (including FEA spanning static stresses and modal analysis), and CAM (including G-code review, CNC setup). The completed hubs were assembled and tested with key findings documented and used for subsequent iterations.• Designed and performed controlled ground tests with subjects ranging from: engine performance, avionics tuning, and aerodynamic data for CFD validation. Assisted in developing safety protocols for test procedures and also a documentation standard for tests and design work.• Thoroughly used Autodesk Fusion 360's NASTRAN FEA solver for a myriad static structural and also modal analyses for various helicopter subassemblies. Some of those tests were validated by in-house physical tests. Most FEA was conducted to design joints and identify the weakest links in subassemblies. Fusion 360's assembly FEA analysis using contacts and connectors enabled quick CAE turnarounds.• Operated a 4-axis CNC mill (primarily using only the 3 main axes) for a variety of prototyping and functional parts manufacturing. Actively participated in optimizing machining parameters for: steel alloys (1018 and 4340; rounds, bars, and sheets), aluminium (6061 and 7075; rounds, bars, and sheets), using Fusion 360 CAM and also briefly using SolidCAM iMachining, for both 2D and 3D surfacing passes. The company was generous to allow me to "learn by breaking" where I was allowed to reasonably push tools to their limits whereby learning the optimal loads and conditions for a variety of drills, endmills, and specialized boring and undercutting end mills.• Collaborated with researchers at Ryerson University's department of aerospace engineering, on structural design, composites, aerodynamics, and avionics.
