This job encompassed assessing potential environmental impacts through the analysis of the project activities and their interactions with the physical environment; Identification and budgeting preventive and corrective measures in order to minimize potential impacts as well as abiding by environmental legislation; Planning Environmental Monitoring Programs for an effective assessment of the environmental performance during works.

As an ecology coordinator, I fulfilled an instrumental role in the process of planning field surveys for the ecology team during the Environmental Impact Assessment of HS2 Phase 2b project. My duty is to link the Ecology team with the Land Access Team the field surveyors from different subcontractors. I am also in charge of processing data in order to track the survey progress for different ecology disciplines and plan the most efficient use of resources according to surveying priorities.

As a member of the managing team I had an active role in internal policy and decision making affecting SHIPO’s daily operations and I wrote the minutes of the management meetings. I also coordinated the Mawengi, Mlangali and Milo Integrated Education (MAMMIE) Project, which is aimed at improving the quality of education in 20 rural primary schools in the south of Tanzania. Some of my tasks and responsibilities are:- Project planning and supervision of activities implemented on the field. - Budget Management- Multicultural Team Management.- Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting- Networking with Partners and Stakeholders.- Project Proposal Writting and Fundraisng- Selection and recruitment of staff members.Some of my achievements in this position were:- The project was successfully completed within given time frame and budget- Main project objectives were achieved according to verifiable indicators.- I planned and budgeted am extension (second phase) of the project that was later granted by the donor.- I fundraised as self-contribution of 70.000 € for the first phase project and another 20,000 € for the second phase- An online based monitoring, evaluation and reporting system was created from scratch for the project- 50 latrines, 10 classrooms and 11 dining halls were constructed in collaboration with local communities and sponsored by different donors- 1,186 pieces of furniture and 4,500 books were procured to the schools- A total of 11 different training workshops for teachers, pupils and parent of all 20 schools were implemented. -A series of events, a radio awareness raising campaign and a musical video on different topics like nutrition or the girls’ rights to education were produced.- Memorandums of understanding and contracts with Tanzanian Authorities and civil partners were signed in order to implement the project.

The SMART Training Centre focuses in building the capacity of local companies and entrepreneurs around the production, the installation and the marketing low cost water and sanitation products. The objective is to promote the use of affordable technologies based in locally available the materials that are easy to repair (SMART technologies).Our approach is to combine the promotion of these technologies (especially in the context of self-supply) with the capacity building of the small private business and the creation of local jobs in the water sector as strategy to improve the availability and sustainability of water and sanitation services in Tanzania.Some of my achievements in this position were:- Successfully completing the yearly program and ensuring the extension of the partnership with the main funding donor for next year.-Raising 211.000 USD for the construction of 65 wells for irrigation and the training of 26 manual drilling teams in 13 regions in Tanzania; - Raising extra funds for international trainings on manual drilling and pump production in Sierra Leone and Mozambique; -The experience of the SMART centre was used as an example in the briefing paper “Innovative mechanisms for improving self-supply services” that was presented in the 38th WEDC International Conference, at Loughborough University in 2015

Statistical research on the impact of different levels of access to sanitation in school performance and education quality indicators such as girls’ enrolment rates, dropout rates and repetition rates. The research was done on an Education Management Information System database containing information from more than 9000 schools in Zambia.My main achievements were:- I designed a tailored tool to analyse the information contained in the database and to obtain graphic outputs expressing the results of the analysis. - I was given the opportunity to present the preliminary results at a conference organized by UNICEF in Nairobi-Obtained results led to the publication of a paper in the Journal of Water Sanitation and Hygiene for Development

Data entry tasks: Completing a data base with information from surveys and economic experiments conducted in Rwanda as part of a research on the implantation of a “Payment for Ecosystem Services” scheme. Updating the data base, reviewing the raw data and report about data errors or missing information, ensuring regular backups of the updated database, saving and labelling different database versions.

Copyediting and translation form English to Spanish of water, environment, climate change and development related texts for the World Water Assesment Program (WWAP) and UNESCO.

Technical design of the event “Water and International Cooperation in Africa”, 20-22 April 2009. It included, review and synthesis of relevant documentation, production of a concept paper establishing a theoretical framework for the event, definition of the focus, scope, dynamics and procedures of the meeting, preparation of the list of potential participants and regular contact with them, writing a working guide for participants, production of a summary report of the event (abstracts, summary of presentations, conclusions and recommendations, etc.), production of all related documentation in English and translation into Spanish.The work resulted in a 3-day international conference participated by governmental representatives from 7 African countries, and representatives from different international organizations including the African Development Bank, The Global Water Partnership, the International Water Management Institute, The African Water Association and the UN.

Creation and delivery of an outreach strategy to enhance the presence and improve the visibility of the Human Development Report (HDR) at the B.I.E. International Exhibition on Water and Sustainable Development “Expo Zaragoza 2008”. This encompassed: Organizing promotional events at the Expo and disseminating outreach materials; Networking and partnership building activities with relevant stakeholders from the educational field in order to mainstream Human Development in both formal and informal education

To assist the information and communication officers of the UNW-DPAC in the performance of the following duties: preparing, gathering, formatting, and classifying information such as UN-Water contacts, international media contacts, UN water-related publications, facts and figures, etc; Production of press releases, dossiers, and media clippings; To assist in the coordination and the supervision of the activities held in the UN-Water Pavilion at “Expo 2008”.

Creation of a geo-referenced database containing the inventory and the evaluation of the rural water systems in the region. This comprised: registering location of the different components of water systems (water sources, tanks, pumps, pipelines, etc) with a GPS receiver; Measuring water flows and sampling water for the analysis of its quality; A survey on the operation and management of the systems and on the water supply service; Analysis of the data; Elaboration of digital cartography with the collected data and a technical report.

Conducting workshops on Sexual and Reproductive Health Education with adults and teenagers; Teaching English to children at the school and providing assistance to local teachers in their tasks
