Being an Energy Specialist was a challenging but a very rewarding experience, which opened my eyes to a new industry I had no prior experience of.The job itself varied day-to-day, in which no day was the same. Yet, it did provide me with a strong knowledge of Octopus Energy’s services and products, made me informed about schemes created by charities and the government to be able to help the most vulnerable consumers - one of Octopus' main principles, diagnosing and solving a multitude of tech-related issues, and encouraging opening complaints for customers in situations we as a company could've improved upon and then solving them in a professional manner to avoid further escalation by discussing resolutions internally with my team.Some achievements which I am proud of and skills that I have added to my arsenal include:-Handling and professionally delivering difficult news: for example, answering calls about account holders who sadly passed away and supporting customers whose accounts were in large amounts of debt. Both experiences, whilst being extremely tough, boosted my ability to deal with hard situations and be composed talking about sensitive subject matter. - Frequently hitting Key Performance Indicators: I was set a target of 35 interactions daily, however consistently achieved 45-55, despite being completed unexperienced in the gas and electricity industry.-Finally, identifying and solving problems quickly. For example, customer’s requests and problems ranged wildly from smart products, to dysfunctional smart and traditional gas and electricity meters, to billing, which resulted in the ability to recognise and resolve, sometimes very complicated problems, amongst the pressures of spikes in which we would have a high volume of callers and wanted to reduce the amount of time they were on hold.

When I was a customer service assistant, I had a range of different duties and responsibilities. These included: using and maintaining tills and self-service checkout machines to deal with customers' requests, guiding customers to the items they need, working in the shop’s bakery processing food and packaging it, and doing stock analysis to identify trends of what items were most popular and using this information to help guide Deputy Manager on stock ordersAchievements and Skills Learnt:• How to operate self-service machines and shop tills efficiently.• Increased confidence in handling the general public, as I dealt with customers' requests and processes in a kind and professional manner.• Good communication skills by being receptive to tasks handed to me by Deputy Managers, processing customers' requests, and creating an inclusive and hard-working atmosphere in the shop by working with other like-minded peers to solve problems and carry out tasks.• Time management• Good Work Ethic: Through starting my shifts early and being proactive with certain overlooked tasks for my role, such as cleaning, sweeping and re-arranging the stock room, I had a reputation of being hard working.• Good initiative skills, such as being decisive when solving problems, for instance: cleaning spillages or crowd management near the till area when the shop gets busy, without having to be told what to do by deputy managers.

During my time at Un-aligned, a multinational NGO dedicated to creating a better United Nations, I had a variety of delegated responsibilities and developed them under the tutelage of Adrian Liberto and Ariana Yekrangi.Here they are alongside other skills I learnt:- writing, editing and researching skills by shadowing Adrian Liberto, a journalist, author and English professor:-Publishing 3 articles in the Gordian, which is viewed worldwide (link for all articles: https://linktr.ee/jayarticles)- Bolstering skills such as time management, critical thinking, networking, marketing and problem-solving.- Networking: by forging professional relationships with peers across the world.- Marketing skills, for example, learning what methods are suitable to attract clicks to certain forms of media (i.e, websites, X (formerly Twitter), Facebook and Instagram)- Had a successful appraisal when my internship ended in which I was offered the opportunity to continue working there in my spare time. However, it coincided with my third year of university and other commitments so I unfortunately could not.

Between the ages of 14 to 20 I was a trader for East London Gardens in Spitalfields Market. The job consisted of creatively arranging the stool to capture customer's attention; processing orders online and in-person; producing and running the businesses’ social media and website; setting up and packing away equipment; and engaging with customers. What initially started as a Saturday job, ended as an experience that kickstarted my hunger for work and excellence. Holding a close relationship with my employer, Amanda Diment, I came back and forth to the job in between educational commitments and my gap year.Achievements and Skills Learnt:• Increased confidence when dealing with customers as I engaged with the public daily.• I utilised methodical approaches when organising and displaying products to attract customers.• I developed good communication skills as I was receptive to instructions and orders.• I expanded the online presence of the business, as I utilised my knowledge of new media to create social media profiles on various platforms. I also used these skills, alongside my abilities in photography, web design and graphic design, to create a website for East London Gardens, which consistently increased its overall revenue.

Job Description: During my gap year, I got a job as a Christmas Temp for Marks and Spencers in Angel, Islington. My formal title was Deputy Operations, but I also assisted on the shop floor as a Customer Assistant when it was busy.My roles included: working backstage, processing stock deliveries as quickly and efficiently as possible, receiving deliveries, storing them and tracking stock movement, and looking out for damaged or missing items.

Job Description: For my work experience during secondary school, I was a Mastering Assistant to illustrious, Music Engineer, John Davis. My roles ranged from executing instructions such as setting up Mastering equipment (e.g, Soundboard, processing Vinyl) and providing food and refreshments to high-end musicians and engineers.Achievements and Skills Learnt:● Significantly improved communication skills, for instance regularly engaging in discussions with high end professionals and well-known music engineers.● Gained key insight into how a new industry operates. ● Learnt how popular music is mastered, processed and sent back to clients, and how different mastering equipment operates.● Demonstrated discipline and obedience.● Good punctuality, despite an hour's commute.● Exhibited good manners and dressed formally to represent company in good stead.● Finally, my School Mentor who came to see my progress was impressed by my diligence and appraisal by work peers.
