About Jay Fleming
I oversee the sales teams and functions within Signmaster, including our team of hardware solution consultants who provide consultation for customers looking to invest in new hardware and looking to find solution to their challenges.The other part of my team looks after all the associated consumable and supplies, including inks and media. They are well experienced with our product range and also have a great practical understanding of the machines that we sell.I have been with Signmaster for 12 years and progressed from a sales consultant through to sales director. This journey has provided great experience from the ground up and kept me close to customers. I have been heavily involved in the development of Signmaster from the product portfolio and pricing, through to internal processes and procedures, staff development and also managing our distribution channel. I have watched it grow and evolve, change ownership and flourish. The real turning point for Signmaster and myself was as it changed ownership and Sam and Lucy bought the business. They brought structure, defined Signmasters purpose and manifested such a positive culture. They invested heavily in the company and development of their team, including myself, by coaching, providing professional training and accreditations, and leading by example. Over the 12 years I have been at Signmaster I have built strong and close relationships with our suppliers and customers, with all the relationships founded on trust and honesty. I work very closely with our senior management team and MD to ensure that we keep Signmaster running like a well-oiled machine, continuing to grow and stay ahead in the market. But both I and Signmaster wouldn't be anything without our team. All the teams here work together seamlessly and are like a big family unit. My team is a very close team and very successful. They have a shared drive and focus and are always highly motivated, which is incredible. At Signmaster I manage our sales team which is comprised of specialists in wide-format hardware and associated technologies, with my team servicing the whole of the UK. My department handles and offers a vast range of products and technologies including eco- solvent, UV, latex, laminators, flatbed applicators, plotters and other finishing systems. We only handle the top leading brands.I act as more of a consultant, listening to customers needs in order to help them grow their business, by making sure that they invest in the best solution for their and their business’s needs. Sales Executive : Hardware & Software
At Signmaster I am responsible for the sales of all the hardware ranging plotters through to wide format solvent and UV printers, flatbeds and finishing systems.Working with the customers throughout the complete sales cycle from enquiry through to order processing and installation, building and sustaining professional relationships with clients, manufacturers and suppliers.When I am not conducting sales activity in the office, I will be found giving a personal demostration service at Signmaster's state of the showroom facilty. I conduct demonstrations on the majority of the equipment and software in our portfolio.
Sales Executive
I started at CS within the Accounts Department as the Purchase Ledger, my main duties were managing the creditors accounts, processing and reconciling invoices and offering support to the Finance Director. March 2009 I made a transition into the Sales Department as it was mutually identified that my attributes and personal qualities would be ideally suited to pursue a career as an Area Sales Manager. I adopted a position as an internal Sales Executive which enabled me to attain a sound technical understanding of contract furniture manufacture and develop my attributes into good sales working practices. Along with completing an NVQ in sales, I built strong working relationships with the senior management team, my external Area Sales Manager and internal colleagues, from this I acquired key skills and techniques that enabled me to become an effective sales resource within the CS sales environment.As I developed within my role I built and maintained strong internal and external customer relationships which enabled me to optimise their customer experience. Working to achieve personal, departmental and regional KPI’s I completed the sales cycle from start to finish providing high standards of before and after sales support. I identified and pursued sales opportunities in-line with company goals and objectives by using a variety of tools and resources, I also created and used a variety of databases e.g. creating a client database showing prospect strength/activity, building a database so that I could effectively co-ordinate product samples, recording customer enquiries with a timeline of activity and producing anticipated orders reports
Assistant Manager
Returning to the Little Chef company at a new site to larger my career as a catering manager. My position here is was an assistant catering manager responsible for three operations and brands; the Little Chef; Burger King and Coffee Tempo. The site has a seating capacity of 140, an ASPH of £6.50, and gross sales of £24000 a week. I liaised with the Regional Manager, Retail Development Director and the Operations Directors on a regular basis. The key duties included; performance management (GP%, wage%, KPI’s); people management (rotas, wages, payroll, induction and training, implementing a variety of motivational techniques, disciplinary action); financial management (cash reconciliation, change orders, banking, petty cash, invoices , credits and returns). I am also familiar with benchmarking , kiazen , quality circles , calculation of R.O.C.E , liquidity ratios and forecasting of sales and covers.
Senior Management
Working in a business of similar nature, I made this change of employment to increase my career prospects. Starting as a supervisor with duties similar to my previous employment, I achieved promotion within a month of joining the company. As a member of the senior management team my role was to be accountable and responsible for the performance of the whole operation. This required monitoring and maintaining a healthy gross profit percentage and stock control. Other duties included stock ordering, payroll and sales forecasts, performance management , financial management and people management.
Duty Manager
The initial role in this employment was as a team member. My duties included waiting on, food and drink preparation and cash handling. After several months I earned a promotion to the management team as a duty manager. My new duties required me to effectively manage the operation of the business. This provided the opportunity for me to develop people management skills and customer service excellence.
