Rockburn Institute is a not-for-profit research and education group which was established in 1978 by faculty and staff of The Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health. Early studies concentrated on state databases, case mix severity measures, measuring the impact of peer review, and the cost of graduate medical education programs.In 1986, the Institute conducted a major study for the National Association on Private Psychiatric Hospitals measuring the impact of prospective payment on psychiatric hospitals. The results were published in the New England Journal of Medicine and altered the federal governmental approach to hospital payment.Since 1990, Rockburn has supported integrated health systems' programs in evidence-based medicine, value-based healthcare, and Clinical Integration.
